Our Technology Journey

TRL 5, and counting

We have successfully moved from lab-scale trials (TRL 4) to an operational pilot facility in Verulam, KZN. The system has demonstrated technical feasibility and circular waste-to-fuel capability. Our B10 biodiesel is SANS 342 compliant, meaning it can be implemented now, without worry to void vehicle warranties.

Our goal is to get to TRL 6-7 by June 2027 to prove local production at an industrial scale.

Series A.2

NuCarbon is currently in its Series A.2 funding round with a target of R20 million. This funding is dedicated to upgrading safety systems, enhancing process efficiency, and expanding production capacity to achieve sustainable long-term results.

Forecasted Margins

We've performed thousands of simulations using a techno-economic model on a 150 tonne/day small-scale industrial plant. The major economic parameters of our processes were sampled, including the costs of feedstock and transport, raw materials, and the prices of our products. This demonstrates the economic resilience of our solution, and its capability to weather out wild swings in the commodities markets.

Partnerships

Strategic Partnerships with Local Organisations

We've partnered with The Innovation Hub (SOC), UVU Africa (formerly UVU Bio), the Durban Chemical Cluster and eThekwini Municipality to accelerate the growth of our business.

 

Official discussions are underway with food waste producers in eThekwini and KwaDukuza for future supplies of up to 200 tonnes/day, and with off-takers who need our green fuels and chemicals.
