Our Story
NuCarbon was born out of necessity and a deep personal connection to the climate crisis. NuCarbon was formed in 2023 in Durban, South Africa by us, Njabulo Bophela and Muven Naidoo. We witnessed firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change, from living through a tornado that displaced thousands in our community to seeing the sugarcane industry—a vital economic driver—decline as no one stepped in to act. Landfills in the country were nearing capacity, and the lack of meaningful waste reduction efforts only deepened the urgency. These experiences shaped our determination to create change. Drawing on years of experience, lessons from failures, and the successes that kept us hopeful, we saw an opportunity to tackle these interconnected crises—climate change, waste management, and industrial decline. That vision became NuCarbon: a company built to reimagine carbon, revitalize industries, and stimulate a sustainable economy while creating a better future for our communities and the planet.
